STEEL Express Creates A Storm Through KHAI Railway Station

On August 9th, I had the oppertunity to visit the KHAI - Khirai Railway station in 'East Midnapore' or Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal (near Panskura), while I was on my way to KGP-Kharagpur from SRC-Santragachi railway station. This is about 74 km from Howrah on the rail tracks.

This small station falls under the South Eastern Railway Zone of the Indian Railway network. I was there for a very short while and could make a few videos of trains passing the station while I waited for my onward local train.

While I waited, the 12814 Steel Express from Jamshedpur (TATA - Tatanagar Junction) to HWH - Howrah passed through PF-3 like a storm! The train was hauled by WAP7 no. 30558 of TATA-Tatanagar loco shed.

WAG9 Powered Freight Train Makes A Speedy Pass Through KHAI

Yesterday on August 9th, I had the oppertunity to visit KHAI - Khirai Railway station in 'East Midnapore' or Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal (near Panskura), while on my way to KGP-Kharagpur from SRC-Santragachi railway station. This is about 74 km from Howrah on the rail tracks.

This small station falls under the South Eastern Railway Zone of the Indian Railway network. I was there for a very short while and could make a few videos of trains passing the station while I waited for my onward local train. Yesterday the train frequency was very bad. Those that I pictured were mostly freights, though there were several express trains which I however couldn't capture for some situational inconvenience only.

Here is the first one of a series on KHAI: a WAG9 locomotive hauled freight train passing KHAI at a very high speed. To my knowledge, WAG9-Hi variant of WAG9 loco is the most powerful locomotive of the Indian Railway network. You can watch the video here:

Big Offlink!! BSL Bhuswal WAP4's Visit To Kolkata Shalimar

Guest from Central Railway: In a major offlink, BSL Bhusawal Loco shed's WAP4 (no. 22847) visited SHM - Kolkata Shalimar with the 22214 Patna Shalimar Duronto Express on August 02, 2017, and it was almost on time!

It is always a great pleasure to welcome these iron horses from different sheds across the country, also it is a great joy when a not regular loco comes in (offlink) with a regular train.

In my last post (read here) I wrote about arrival of this loco with the 22214 Duronto Express. Now this post is about this majestic red loco that was spotted leaving the station after its duty and now going towards SRC-Santragachi shed via PDPK.

By the way, rainy weather still continues and I am hoping for the conditions to improve so that I can get some good sunshine for some good trainspotting activity. It is sadly quite difficult to take photos and videos during overcast days of monsoon.

Guest From Central Railway: BSL Bhusawal WAP4 Visits Kolkata Shalimar

BSL WAP4 visits SHM   | © SoumosRailways
In a major offlink, BSL Bhusawal Loco shed's WAP-4 no. 22847 came in with the 22214 PNBE - SHM Duronto Express yesterday on August 02 2017. It was a great pleasure to welcome the guest from Bhusawal - Maharastra, Central Railway Zone of Indian Railways.

It is quite a challenge to take photos and videos of the trains on a cloudy day; now that monsoon is at its peak and I heard that more rainy conditions are expected in the coming weekend - as you can see heavy cloud building up in the screenshot from the IMD website that I saved last night while writing this blog post. I'm still trying to put up a daily video for my YouTube channel which should go on unless there is difficult weather.

On the next blog post I shall write up about this BSL Bhusawal loco as it was departing the station for the SRC-Santragachi yard.

Ludhianvi Tiger Visits SHM-Kolkata Shalimar

LDH WAG7 at SHM  | © SoumosRailways
Ludhiana WAG7 (no. 24647) was spotted during my recent railfanning trip to the SHM-Shalimar Railway Station on July 26th. The monster 'Tigerface' loco brought in a looong freight train to the Shalimar yard. The train was given quite a welcome by the staff like that of an aircraft! I love spotting these freight trains and locos coming in to the station, but makes a great trouble to the local people as it blocks the road to the other side and Shalimar still don't have any overbridge or subway, though a new subway to the station is under construction as part of a major updrage to the station.

If rumours are to be believed, Shalimar yard is to be closed soon as the station is expecting a major infrastructure upgrade to become a major passenger station (already work is under progress - Read here - July 2017 update). This is still a very important yard that handles huge amount of cargo, a major portion of all coming for Kolkata and Eastern India.

You can watch the video of the train coming in to the station here:

Visakhapatnam WAG5-P loco (no. 23838) was spotted at the SHM-Shalimar Railway Station on my recent railfanning visit to the station on July 26, 2017. The loco brought in the 22836 PURI Shalimar Weekly SF Express to the station and now leaving Shalimar for the Santragachi yard.

Read the previous blog post about arrival of the 22836 Puri Shalimar Weekly SF Exp here with this loco.

Last week too this train was brought in by another VSKP WAG5.  Usually this train gets a VSKP-Visakhapatnam WAP4, anyway it was good to spot a different loco than the common WAP4s. Now, I must thank YouTube friend follower Rabin Saha, who kindly pointed that this was not a WAM4 but a WAG5P. Really appreciate such kind correction, previous posts have been corrected & updated elsewhere.
