Guest From North: Jhansi WAG7 Pays A Visit To SER

Jhansi WAG7 comes in | © Soumo's Railways
Recently we had a rare guest from the North Central Region of the country. JHS-Jhansi WAG7 locomotive (no. 27565) made a surprise visit to our SHM Shalimar railway station yard of the 'South Eastern Railway' zone with a freight train.

This video was made/ taken near the PDPK Padmapukur Railway Station as the train moved slowly to the Shalimar railway station yard..

Shalimar yard gets a lot of incoming freight trains, it is a delight to see these locos coming in from all over the country to my home station. It was such a great pleasure to welcome this guest from Jhansi. This is the first time a loco from Jhansi loco shed came in.

While I was in Gwalior last November, my train passed through the Jhansi Junction Railway station

The railway station was built by the British in the late 1880s. After a long survey of three places the current site was selected for the station. The station has a massive fort-like building painted in maroon and off white. It is one of the largest and busiest railway stations in the Indian Railway network. The first Shatabdi Express of India started between New Delhi and Jhansi.

Earlier Jhansi used to be a part of Central railways zone headquartered at Mumbai but now comes under North Central Railway Zone headquartered at Allahabad. The First Station director of Jhansi Station is Girish Kanchan. (Inputs from Wikipedia, See the page here).

On the right you can find a pic I clicked of three smiling porters at the Jhansi Station platform from my train window. This is one of my favourite pictures which I thought of sharing here. The Gwalior and North India trip was a memorable one, pity that I had to abandon the same mid-way due to my bad health.

Watch the video of the Jhansi WAG7 bringing in the freight train here:

PhotoBlog: Howrah WAP4 Leaves Via PDPK

HWH WAP4 loco departing via PDPK | © Soumo's Railways
Today thought of sharing another PhotoBlog post. This was from the last week's railfanning session at the PDPK Padmapukur railway station.

Howrah WAP4 (no. 22326) that came earlier that morning with the 22214 Patna Duronto leaving via PDPK, SER.

It might appear that I was standing on tracks, but it was not the case. The photo was taken from the pedestrian road beside the tracks at a curve, at a safe distance, thanks to the camera zoom, it came out very nicely.

While I have made a video of this loco passing PDPK from SHM, I will share the same later in future. You can read a previous PhotoBlog post (here) on the PDPK Padmapukur Railway station, also you can follow all railfanning and related posts from this station here. Many of my PhotoBlog posts are based on PDPK station.

GOMOH WAG9H Hauls A Heavy Freight Through HWH KGP Line

GMO Strongman approaches | © Soumo's Railways
I am a bit late in updating this post on the blog, though the video was already up on my YouTube yesterday.

This updates continues to be part of my railfanning session at NPMR - Narayan Pakuria Murail station near the PKU - panskura Junction railway station on the busy Howrah - Kharagpur railway line under the South Eastern Railway zone.

Gomoh WAG9-H locomotive (no. 31336) hauls a heavy freight train, through the busy Howrah - Kharagpur line of South Eastern Railway zone. WAG9 locomotives are the most powerful locomotives that is owned by Indian Railways. It was so nice to see this strongman of ECR hauling this heavy freight train.

This video (see the link I shared below) went on my YouTube yesterday, and it was also the 69th Republic Day, so one of my loyal followers on YouTube, Mr. Rabin Saha commented if it was a Republic Day special. Honestly I did not plan for a special Republic day special post but GMO - NSCB Gomoh railway station is so much associated with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, one of the most celebrated Heroes of the Indian Freedom Movement. I think that way we can link this to this special day dedicated to the nation. BTW as all knows, Gomoh is now renamed as 'Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Gomoh' after this great person.

Watch the video of the WAG9H loco hauling the freight train in the link below:

Mughalsarai WAP4 appears | © Soumo's Railways
This post continues as part of my old series of trains over the Gandak River Bridge that connects Hajipur and Sonepur, and the respective railway stations over the Gandak river in Bihar. Today I am sharing an unpublished update from this trip to Central India in November.

MGS Mughalsarai WAP4 locomotive (no. 22869) was spotted hauling an unidentified express train through the said Gandak River Rail bridge from Sonepur side towards Hajipur Junction (find the video below).

Great Crossing Between Bhusawal WAG5 Duo and Lalmati Express

BSL WAG5A twins coming in | © Soumo's Railways
I am quite excited about this video (click here, or find the video link below) that I took last month at the outskirts of NPMR - Narayan Pakuria Murail railway station near PKU-Panskura Junction on the busy 'Howrah Kharagpur' line of South Eastern Railway Zone.

Bhusawal WAG5 twins (WAG5A variants; no 23528 and 23476) and Purulia bound Lalmati Express
from Howrah, had an amazing crossing at the outskirts of NPMR and luckily I was able to film it.

I was actually focusing on the freight train as just when the lalmati

express appeared, which was being hauled by a SRC-Santragachi WAP4 no. 22275.

I really loved the way these trains crossed each other and the majestic entry of the twin WAG5s and the close thundering pass of the lalmati Express was something to note. Do find the video in the link below.

PhotoBlog & Anniversary - Kanpur WAG7 Visits Shalimar Yard

Kanpur's old man at SHM | © Soumo's Railways
CNB Kanpur's old man, WAG7 locomotive no. 28473 came in earlier this morning to the SHM - Shalimar Railway Yard of SER-South Eastern Railway zone. It came with a consignment of Ashok Leyland mini trucks (the trucks are not in pic though).

I took this picture when the loco was returning to the loco shed after it's duty.

Follow all previous #Photoblog posts of my blog here.

BTW tomorrow is the first anniversary of the 1st upload of 'Soumo's Railways' YouTube channel. It was exactly one year ago I started railfanning 'properly' and started uploading about trains. Interestingly the first video that was uploaded was also a WAG7 loco of the MGS - Mughalsarai loco shed. You can watch the first upload in the link below:

Memu Makes Music While Skipping NPMR Station

MEMU coming thru NPMR | © Soumo's Railways
This is continuation of my trainspotting session at NPMR Narayan Pakuria Murail station last month, when I visited there after Christmas. I couldn't resist but sharing this one. Most likely this is the first update about a MEMU train I am sharing on my blog and on my YouTube channel.

The 38732-38712 ‘Kharagpur to Santragachi’ MEMU local was spotted skipping the NPMR or the ‘Narayan Pakuria Murail’ railway station on the SER-South Eastern Railway’s busy Howrah Kharagpur rail line at a very high speed. Do note how it makes interesting music while it passes. The amazing metal sound is indeed so thrilling!

Falaknuma Express Takes A Sharp Curve And Rushes At A Very High Speed!

Falaknuma curving in | © Soumo's Railways
12703 Howrah to Secunderabad "Falaknuma Superfast Express" takes a sharp curve outside NPMR - Narayan Pakuria Murail railway station and rushes at a very high speed on the busy 'Howrah - Kharagpur line'. This super long train was being served by a SRC - Santragachi WAP4 (no. 22894).

Falaknuma Express is a famous train which connects Eastern city of Kolkata (by Howrah Station) in West Bengal with Hyderabad (Secunderabad) in Telengana.

I wish to quote the following from it's Wikipedia page - "It runs daily and connects important stations such as Bhubaneswar, Brahmapur, Vishakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Guntur. It is a fast alternative to other trains such as East Coast Express and Visakha Express. Compared to the other trains on the Sec'bad to Howrah/Bhubaneswar, it covers lesser distance as it runs via the Nalgonda, Guntur route.
Falaknuma being hauled by a SRC WAP4 | © Soumo's Railways
It is the fastest superfast between Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad other than Duronto & Garibrath. Most of the people going to Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Palasa prefer this train as the train arrives early in the morning. The train runs jam-packed throughout the year.

Besides being superfast this is the only train which is most neat and clean after trains like Shatabdi Express, Rajdhani Express, Duranto Express and other superfast trains in India.

The train is named after The Falaknuma Palace, Hyderabad, India. Falaknuma is Persian—فلک ا نمایش name meaning to Reflections of Skies/Heavens It covers a distance of 1545 kilometers in about 26 hrs, with 21 halts in between."

Patna Shalimar Duronto Fights A Bad Foggy Condition

Patna Duronto cuts through fog | © Soumo's Railways
Patna to Shalimar the '22214 Duronto Express' had to struggle through very dense fog as it approached Shalimar Railway Station last Friday. The visibility was extremely low/ poor forcing the train to arrive late by almost two hours to it's final destination at Shalimar.

I was thinking that how great it is that the loco pilots had to deal with such adverse situation. I appreciate their dedication and sincere efforts in  driving the trains under such adverse weather conditions. It is already in news that Indian Railways is to implement special instruments helping train movement during foggy conditions, under low visibility. I hope that is implemented very soon.

A SRC Santragachi WAP4 (no. 22639) was hauling the train. This SRC Santragachi loco is btw, the usual loco for this train.

Watch the video as the Duronto Express struggles through the foggy situation:

Adra Howrah Shiromani Fast Passenger Comes With TATA WAG5

TATA WAG5 brings in Adra HWH Shiromani F'P' | © Soumo's Railways
This post continues to be part of my series on the sightings around PKU-Panskura Junction on the busy 'Howrah - Kharagpur' line of the Indian Railways. Here is another update from the same railfanning session at NPMR railway station.

TATA-Tatanagar WAG5 no. 23324 makes an amazing entry with the 58016 Adra to Howrah Shiromani Fast Passenger from NPMR-Narayan Pakuria Murail, and moves towards Mecheda. Do note the amazing sound or music it makes while moving in high speed. How amazing it is to hear the heavy metal moving on and that's one of those reasons that makes #railfanning so exciting.
