Aranyak's Departure & Me Grabbing The Loco Pilot's Attention!!

12885 Aranyak Express was spotted leaving Shalimar Railway station on my recent railfanning trip to Shalimar on Wednesday, July 26th, 2017. The train was hauled by a SRC-Santragachi WAP4 no 22349 (read about the approach of the loco to the station here) to serve the train.

Interestingly the loco pilot was watching me filming the train as he was out to wash his hands off the loco's doors. That was an amusing sight.

22836 Puri Shalimar Weekly SF Express Arrives With VSKP WAG5

 22836 Puri Shalimar Weekly SF Express was spotted again with VSKP - Visakhapatnam WAG5 locomotive upon its arrival at Shalimar Railway station. Even last week (read the last week's post here) this same loco hauled this train on this route. Usually this is served by a VSKP WAP4.

However it was quite nice to spot this train and loco again. As usual it was a bit late, but not that unusually late of almost 2 hours like last week.

Santragachi WAP4 No. 22349 Comes To Shalimar For The 12885 Aranyak Express

During my recent RF trip to the SHM - 'Kolkata Shalimar' Railway station, I spotted this lovely Santragachi WAP4 approaching  the station to serve the daily (except Sun) 12885 Shalimar to Bhojudih "Aranyak Express".

While a SRC WAP4 is pretty normal for this train, it often gets a variety of different non WAP4 locomotives, especially freight ones like WAG7s. I am not sure but I guess the incoming locomotives of freight trains to the nearby Shalimar yard are utilised with this train. Anyway it is quite nice to spot the arrival of these locos to the station. You can find all posts related to the 12885 Aranyak Express listed here.

Guests From South India: ERODE WAG7 Twins Visits SHM-Kolkata Shalimar

Twin ERODE WAG7 locomotives (no. 27652 & 28026) were spotted at Shalimar Railway station on my railfanning trip to the station yesterday.

The locos likely came with a freight train to the Shalimar yard. It is always interesting to spot these freight locomotives coming in to the station quite often. Shalimar had the oppertunity to welcome these guests from south yesterday.

So Close!! ANGUL WAG7 Passes So Closely

This was during my recent railfanning trip to "Kolkata Shalimar (SHM) station while I was also out for my regular morning walk. If you are new to my blog, I live around Shalimar Railway station and this station is also my and my blog's home station.

I was actually waiting for the 22836 Puri Shalimar Weekly SF Express, which was almost about two hours late (read my last most here). But probably 22836 was waiting for this freight train to pass first.

So, this was ANGL-ANGUL WAG7 loco no. 27980. A quick Google search tells me that this loco once was under VSKP - Visakhapatnam ELS, and was once dead, now repaired and is owned under Odisha's Angul loco shed.

Well, that was not exactly close - I was standing at a very safe well established regular pedestrian road beside the tracks so it was very much safe and I did not compromise with my safety. Thanks to the camera zoom it appeared as if I was standing so close! It was fun spotting the train.

Visakhapatnam WAG5 Brings in the 22836 PURI SHM Weekly SF Express

On my latest RF visit to Kolkata-Shalimar (SHM), spotted the 22836 PURI to Shalimar Weekly SF Express coming in/ arriving at Shalimar with a VSKP-Visakhapatnam WAG5 locomotive (no. 23575). However I may not call this an offlink as this train for this journey usually gets a VSKP WAP4 but today there was a WAG5 as you can see in the video I made.

The 22836 Puri Shalimar or the Shalimar Puri train is quite a good one, and I and my family have traveled on this train several times in the past. In fact this is also our favourite train for returning from Puri. So if someone is wondering whether to book tickets on this train, then I do recommend it. However it is to be noted that this train, along with several others of this route (I guess) is arriving quite late (read below), that might be a temporary (I hope so) operational/ technical issue which should resolve in future.

This day the train was almost two hours late (realtime position update on NTES was a mess as it is normal now) and it suddenly came in, and it was raining so it was sort of much difficult to hold the camera straight and also protect it from rain (I was not carrying an umbrella). Hence apologies certain shaky segments, but still I made some edits which are hopefully bearable. Hope you enjoy the entry of the train as I did.

Offlink!! Mughalsarai Tigerface WAG7 Departs With Aranyak Express

Big Offlink!! Yesterday I posted about the entry of this MGS-Mughalsarai WAG7 (no. 27016) loco "Tigerface" to the SHM-Shalimar railway station of SER. It was there to haul the 12885 Aranyak Express. Now today I uploaded the video of the loco hauling/ departing from Shalimar with the 12885 Aranyak Express.

I was just standing outside the station near the railway crossing and was able to capture the beautiful departure of the train. At the end of the video, Shalimar's diesel shunter tried to peek in but eventually shied away.

It was a great day for railfanning at SHM.

Santragachi WAP4 Leaves Shalimar Post Duty For Patna Duronto Express

SRC WAP4 moves towards Santragachi after duty, SHM's shunter WDS6 loco gives company for a while:

#Santragachi #WAP4 no. 25019 leaving #Shalimar (SHM) #RailwayStation, it was there for the inbound 22214 #PNBE #Patna - #SHM #DurontoExpress, which was about 30 minutes late.

This loco was spotted as leaving from the railway station after #duty.

Construction Work In Progress At Kolkata Shalimar (SHM) Railway Station

So my home station, "Kolkata Shalimar (SHM)" of SER, is getting some serious infrastructure update and is to become a major railway station in days to come.

Located on the west bank of the Hooghly River, Shalimar was or still is relatively a small station with just two functional platforms and a third one built recently. However it houses an important railway yard that handels a huge amount of cargo for Kolkata and the region.

The passenger/ station area is quite beautiful and peaceful and is a favourite place for many morning walkers, including me!

AJJ Arakkonam Loco Spotted At VSKP

We railfans often envy these talented gentlemen :)

This snap was taken at VSKP-Visakhapatnam Railway station during my recent trip to Visakhapatnam last June (2017). Here the loco pilot was operating the AJJ-Arakkonam WAP4 no. 22901.

Interestingly when I posted this snap on "IRFCA" Facebook group, Mr. Anu Prasad, a fellow RF and loco pilot from VSKP identified this pictured gentleman as his colleague and was quite overjoyed.
