Earlier this month, I was at Patna and Hajipur and was lucky to spend some time at the famous Sonepur mela, which is also known as the 'Cattle Fair' of Sonepur. I was able spend some time at the Sonepur - Hajipur connecting three grand bridges, among which two are dedicated to railway/ train movement, and the third one, the oldest, was made in the British era is for general public and light vehicles. This British era bridge had become my favourite spotting location and I literally stood on this bridge for several hours and watched trains moving across the Gandak river.
This freight train carrying box wagons over the grand Gandak Rail Bridge across the Gandak River was spotted by me on 5th November. The train was moving from Hajipur towards Sonepur across the Gandak river. I was standing on the above mentioned British era made footbridge next to the rail bridge in Hajipur side. The ghat you see (from where the train appears) is the Chitragupta Ghat in Hajipur. Yes the same Chitragupta who keeps records of the actions of human beings, and is sort of a secretary of Yamraj; there is also a temple dedicated to him there. The train was being hauled by a MGS-Mughalsarai WAG7 no. 28654. You can read more about this locohere. IndianRailInfohave a page on the MGS WAG7 22654, which you can access it here.
Here is the video link:
I must admit that the trains passing the bridge looks amazing. The day was quite sunny and the weather was clear so, the video was nicely made in such favourable conditions. There will be more posts about trains spotted on this bridge which are to follow in the coming days.
